Purpose of the Job:
The Network Administrator is responsible for the Namibia Subsidiary network. This includes communications infrastructure and third party connections as well as operating systems and associated sub-systems. The responsibility spans to include hardware, Network Devices and software tools, including installation, configuration, and maintenance, and the planning, maintaining, and monitoring of these systems. It is also a function to advise and investigate improvements and savings within the environment. The incumbent is also responsible to the provision of periodic reports to management in regard to the status, potential risks, weaknesses, threats and opportunities of the Letshego Namibia network infrastructure.
 
Key Accountabilities:
1. Systems and Network 
1) Maintain network documentation (Letshego Namibia Network Infrastructure; diagrams covering  all the connectivity/links physical equipment and layout, IP addresses, business applications, software, security controls throughout the subsidiary)  
2) Identify alternatives for optimizing computer resources, Wireless Links, Internet Links, Network routers and switches – monitoring using appropriate tools
3) Expected to be on-call (rotational) when planned
4) VM, High Availability, monthly Flex clone DR Drills.
5) Scheduled afterhours and weekend work expected
6) Routine maintenance visits to branches as expected and/or training interventions locally and internationally.
7) Collect information to analyses and evaluate existing or proposed systems 
8) Research, plan, install, configure, troubleshoot, maintain and upgrade operating systems. 
9) First line support for LOS and Bancs, escalate to IT Support if needed.
10) Ensure maintenance of an IT asset register with serial numbers etc.
11) Ensue maintenance of Letshego Namibia Supplier List 
12) Research and recommend hardware and software development, purchase, and use. 
13) Conduct technical research on system upgrades to determine feasibility, cost, time required, and compatibility with current system.
14) Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity problems, including user access and component configuration. 
15) Continuously monitor connectivity, network, and application performance to ensure proactive problem resolution and general stability.
16) Responsible for the Production and DR Data Centre i.e. Power, UPS, generators, fire suppression, physical and Virtual Servers and the management and provisioning thereof, Storage planning and monitoring, Firewall, telecom service providers, PABX system, cell phone routers, synchronization to the domain, server migrations.
17) Maintenance of the confidentiality of key network passwords including but not limited to servers, routers, switches, call managers,  and other network default passwords, codes, etc.
18) Ensure that replication of the DR Recovery Centre is occurring at all times and that the backup plans are in place and adhered to.
19) Responsible for the Disaster Recovery drills bi-annual and flex clone running and documentation of the outcome and resolution of exceptions
20) Responsible for the  , switches, Router, Wireless links, Firewall ASA, Internet links, Namibia Telkom Frame relay links, PABX, country-telecom contacts, telephone lines and ASDL
21) Provide full support over the Active directory, Exchange servers, VM Ware, Netapp, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, modems, storage devices, monitoring tools
 
2. Support and Analysis
1) Select among authorized procedures and seek assistance when guidelines are inadequate, significant deviations are proposed, or when unanticipated problems arise.
2) Document system problems and resolutions for future reference. 
3) Presenting proposals to management and users;
4) Working closely with developers and a variety of end users to ensure technical compatibility and user satisfaction;
5) Providing training to users of a new system;
6) Help with Staff training and support and the creation of training and development plans and the monitoring of performance and achievement of plans
7) Training and assisting staff in using hardware and software efficiently 
8) Training of staff on technical issues and how to troubleshoot key network resources and components
9) meeting users' access requirements and resolving their problems;
10) Monitoring network availability and performance of the group through relevant and available network monitoring software
 
 
3. Management Activities
1) Planning and coordination of DR drills and testing
2) Ensure accurate and timeously delivered requests
3) Work as a team member with other technical staff, such as development.
4) Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network. 
5) Identifying options for potential solutions and assessing them for both technical and business suitability;
6) Creating logical and innovative solutions to complex problems;
7) Drawing up specific proposals for modified or replacement systems;
8) Ensuring that budgets are adhered to and deadlines met;
9) Drawing up a testing schedule for the complete system;
10) Overseeing the implementation of a new system, system upgrades, deployment of hardware, etc;
11) Planning and working flexibly to a deadline;
12) Keeping abreast of technical as well as industry sector developments.
13) Responsible for monitoring and ensuring that all replication to the backup servers is happening
14) Assist in ensuring that all software licensing is current and that the most efficient form of licensing is utilized with an understanding of the business strategic objectives.
15) Provide on-the-job training to new department staff members. 
16) Synchronization with all subsidiaries on the Domain.
17) Cisco IPT – backup of all databases.
18) Video conferencing, Meeting place, Call Centre maintain documentation 
19) Upgrades on the servers working with the Group Network Team.
20) Maintenance of AD with the Assistance of the Group Network Team.
21) Maintain Group Policies GPOs and indemnity forms
22) Liaison with external vendors and service providers on network equipment, resources, services etc.
23) Negotiation with vendors on agreements, hardware, software and any related labour/products on the network. 
24) Relationship management with key vendors and account representatives of telecom, network, ISP, ICT vendors and service providers throughout the group. 
25) Monitoring of service level agreements with relevant service providers, monitoring and scrutinizing connectivity statistics and other managed services and making recommendations as needed.
26) Planning and performing periodic audits of managed services and hosting services by service providers.

5) A solid understanding of operating systems; comfortable with most aspects of operating system administration; for example, configuration of mail systems, system installation and configuration, printer systems, fundamentals of security, installing third-party software, understands paging and swapping, inter-process communications, devices and what device drivers do, file system concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions), can use performance analysis to tune systems, 
6) Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts; understands principles of routing, the design of consistent network-wide file system layouts, can configure NFS and NIS, NT domains; can use nslookup or dig to check information in the DNS; understands basic routing concepts. 
 
Knowledge and Experience Required of Job Holder:
1) 5 years continuous relevant experience
2) A degree or certificate in computer science or a related field. 
3) One to three years of system administration experience. 
4) Familiarity with networked/distributed computing environment concepts; for example, can use the route command or administer routing and remote access service, add a workstation to a network, and mount remote file systems. 
5) Works under general direction from senior management. 
6) Experience with MS Active Directory, MS Exchange, VM Ware, Netapp, Veam, SRM
7) Training/ experience in CCNA, MCP, MCSA

2) Provides technical lead and/or supervises system administrators, technicians, or others of equivalent seniority.
