Purpose of the Job:
To support financial operations within the Finance department by ensuring that transactions of the Bank and its related companies are recorded accurately and timeously and that the integrity of financial information is maintained.
Key Accountabilities:
1) Compiling of Regulatory returns (e.g. NAMFISA) and ensure timely submission.
2) Trial balance to be scrutinized monthly i.e. investigate clearing accounts
3) Ensure outstanding on Bank reconciliations and Suspense accounts are followed up and resolved timeously
4) Approve cashbook and accounts payable processing on system (Oracle authorisation).
5) Approve core banking system (BaNCS) transactions in terms of the defined role matrix.
6) Extracting exception reports from system and distribution to clerks and accountants for action.
7) Monitor the company’s cash flows on a daily basis make recommendations regarding minimisation of interest expenses to superior for action.
8) Assist in the business continuity planning and operations of the Finance department.
9) Analyse and report financial data on an ad hoc reports as and when requested
10) Co-ordinate and review monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and bank reconciliations
- Maintain monthly audit file in the agreed format
- Respond to audit queries in area of responsibility
- Ensure that the asset register is maintained and updated.
- Prepare and submit local tax (PAYE & VAT & Withholding tax) returns and reports on time and ensure that the appropriate % of VAT input credits are claimed
11) Ensure that revenue and costs are accounted for accurately and timeously in the ledgers.
12) Authorise creditor payments according to procurement policies and procedures
13) Prepare and submit Insurance Bordereaux to Hollard monthly
14) Prepare and submit NTA levies monthly
15) Review and submit provisions & accruals journals monthly
16) Spot check petty cash and sign-off accordingly.
17) Undertake completeness and accuracy reviews of payment runs.
18) Provide support the Manager: Financial Accounting as and when required and report on progress on all activities and matters requiring urgent attention.
19) Other ad hoc duties as prescribed by the Senior Finance Team to assist in achieving Finance Department objectives.
Knowledge & Skills and Characteristics
- Knowledge of accounting applications (Oracle EBS)
- Working knowledge of IFRS
- Sound knowledge of VAT and Income Tax
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Good communication skills
- Honesty & Integrity
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
- Ability to teamwork and mentor/coach others
Qualifications and Experience
- Accounting Degree / Diploma
- 3 years relevant accounting experience
- Banking experience will be an advantage
